Comments on the Montevideo Residential Follow-up Survey
- In looking at the follow-up survey for Montevideo, the data shows that residential use rose modestly. Computer ownership went up from 62% to 70%, while Internet connectivity did better, going from 52% to 64.5% (see table). Broadband usage rose an impressive 22.5 percentage points. The percentage of Internet users saying they were satisfied with their Internet speed increased considerably, from 36.3% to 51.1%.

- In this follow-up survey, about 48% of Internet users said they use the Internet about the same amount as they did a year ago, while 50% said they use it more.
- Among dial-up users, about 18.5% said they hadn’t yet tried broadband, compared to 33% in the previous survey.
- When read a list of Get Broadband program activities held during the year, about 38% said they had heard of the activities, while about 7% had participated in them.
Comments on the Montevideo Business Follow-up Survey
- Between the initial survey and the follow-up, computer ownership and Internet connectivity stayed about the same: about 75% for computer ownership and about 68% for Internet connectivity. Between the first survey and the follow-up survey, the number of businesses using dial-up dropped from 15.7% to 4.5%. Overall broadband use stayed about the same, going from 53% to 56%. Broadband use may have been higher in the follow-up survey, but a number of respondents declined to answer the question. The presence of a company web site went from 31% of businesses to 39%.
- About 37% of businesses connected to the Internet said they are using the Internet more now than a year ago, while 50% said they are using it the same amount.
- About 39% of those interviewed said they had heard of the activities held in conjunction with the Get Broadband project, but none said they participated in them.
