Early Childhood Coalition
The Coalition is a part of the statewide Early Childhood Initiative launched by the six
Minnesota Initiative Foundations (MIFS) with major funding from the McKnight Foundation.
Over the last three years 36 Early Childhood Coalitions have been developed across Rural
Minnesota. The MIFS have also partnered with Ready 4 K, an early childhood advocacy organization
created to develop a comprehensive early childhood support network within Minnesota.
Members have been recruited from diverse sectors of the Itasca Area including parents,
businesses, child care providers, early childhood educators, faith community, human services,
healthcare, as well as other interested/committed individuals. Mary Kosak, program manager for
Children First!, serves as the coordinator.
The coalition helps to increase public awareness about issues in relation to early childhood, as well as strengthen local infrastructures to support young children and their families.
