Blandin Foundation categorizes grants by size and type of use. Each application process is customized, to help ensure that our grantee partnerships start off on a healthy footing.

Over $50,000
Applications Due: March 15, June 15, September 15, December 15
A minimum of 60 percent of grant funds are awarded to the Foundation’s home communities in the Grand Rapids/Itasca County, Minn., area, including the communities of Blackduck, Hill City, Northome, and Remer.
Outside of the Foundation’s home giving area, grants are focused on fewer, high-impact awards to projects with the potential to establish models that can be emulated by other communities. Preference will be given to communities that have participated in a Blandin Foundation community leadership program.
Eligibility and our areas of focus guidelines apply. Response in 90 days or more.

$10,001 - $50,000
Applications Due: No Deadline
These grants provide a more nimble response to project-based initiatives by simplifying the application and reporting process. Larger grants in this category may be recommended for trustee review.
Proposed projects must fit within the same guidelines as Blandin Foundation trustee-reviewed grants. Response in approximately 30 days.

$1,001 - $10,000
Applications Due: No Deadline
These grants provide a more nimble response to project-based initiatives by simplifying the application and reporting process.
Proposed projects must fit within the same guidelines as Blandin Foundation major grants. You may refer to the Online Grant Application Guide as you fill out the form. Response in approximately 30 days.

Blandin Leadership Program Grants
Applications Due: No Deadline
Amount Awarded: Up to $5,000
Graduates of Blandin’s community leadership programs (BCLP, BRCLP, LPEP, LEDC, ACE) may apply for these funds to assist with projects to plan for a vibrant future for their communities. Previously these grants were called Rural Quick Start grants. Response in approximately 30 days.

Broadband Community Project Grants
Applications Due: Applications reviewed quarterly
Amount Awarded: Up to $25,000
Robust Network Feasibility Fund grants are available for studying the feasibility of building geographically based broadband networks. More community resources available on the Broadband Programs page.

Itasca County Area Community Donations
Applications Due: No Deadline
Amount Awarded: $100 to $1,000
Donations are available to qualified nonprofits in our home communities with a 501(c)3 status for projects that meet an emerging need. Limited to one per organization per calendar year. You may refer to the Online Grant Application Guide as you fill out the form. Response in one to two weeks.
